About us

The Human Library is an international movement where people are the “books” and their stories are the content.

Readers “borrow” a person for a conversation, asking questions and listening to lived experiences that may be unfamiliar or misunderstood.

Voices of Ingham Human Library is our local depot, bringing this unique experience to Ingham County and beyond. We host events where community members can meet face-to-face with individuals who have faced prejudice, stigma, or strong stereotyping. By sharing stories in a safe, respectful space, we create opportunities for empathy, curiosity, and lasting change.

Our work began as the Ingham County Human Library in 2025, and soon after with our community’s input, we embraced our new name Voices of Ingham to reflect the rich diversity of voices that make up our community. Every event is guided by trained volunteers, with a commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and respect for all.

Our Mission

Voices of Ingham Human Library will challenge prejudice, build understanding, and strengthen our community through personal conversations. We connect people as “Books” and “Readers,” encouraging open dialogue that humanizes experiences and breaks down barriers.
